On Thursday, January 30, 2025 Gretna Middle School sixth, seventh and eighth grade students participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The students were given words to spell from materials prepared by the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. Students displayed knowledge learned throughout their school experience while competing for top honors.
Adam Rowland, a sixth grader, claimed first place and Penelope Tyree, a seventh grader, was the second place winner.
The following students also earned their way into the final round of the school spelling bee: Connor Butters, Jaiden Childress, Jayden Childress, Aaden Cobbs, Alayna Collins, Caiden Compton-Scruggs, Madison Davidson, Ty’Darius Hunt, Brooklyn Kniffin, Evander Lester, Adam Rowland, Matthew Smith, Carter Taylor, Penelope Tyree, Lexi Waller, Eli Witcher and Haley Yowell.
Adam and Penelope will participate in the Danville Area Spelling Bee, which will be held at Averett University on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
